A devastating hurricane for parts of Florida and many Caribbean Islands
Hurricane Irma created "extraordinarily dire" conditions in several Caribbean Islands, including the U.S. Virgin Islands, especially St. Thomas and St. Johns. One early estimate is that 60% of the houses on St. Johns lost their roofs. St. Martins Island was virtually destroyed.
