Oxfam America
Flooding and strong winds from Hurricane Irma have destroyed homes and crops in the Dominican Republic, Haiti, and other areas of the Caribbean. Tens of thousands of people have been displaced, and many do not have access to clean water and basic sanitation. Oxfam is helping people with safe water, sanitation, and hygiene in villages in northern Haiti in order to prevent the spread of diseases like cholera.
For more than 30 years, Oxfam has been active in the Caribbean region, where we work hand in hand with local partners to assist people in crisis, while helping affected communities raise their voices to ensure they get appropriate assistance. Meanwhile, we’re also watching the storm’s effects in Florida, and will monitor its impact and the response of US agencies.
