Reproductive Freedom for All Foundation

Formerly NARAL Pro-Choice America Foundation, Reproductive Freedom for All Foundation gives voice to the 8 in 10 Americans who support legal abortion.

For over 50 years, Reproductive Freedom for All has fought to protect and advance reproductive freedom at the federal and state levels — including access to abortion care, birth control, pregnancy and postpartum care, and paid family leave — for everybody. Reproductive Freedom for All is powered by its more than 4 million members from every state and congressional district in the country.

Why should I support your work?

We are in a crisis unlike any we’ve faced in our history – and we must take action to galvanize America’s majority for reproductive freedom. We believe in the power of people to make a difference. 8 in 10 Americans believe abortion should be legal.

Today, with more than 4 million members representing every state and congressional district in the country, we’re on the front lines of the fight to preserve and expand reproductive freedom and abortion access.

Reproductive freedom is the fundamental right of everyone to make their own decisions about their lives, bodies, and futures.

Why does your charity exist?

Reproductive Freedom for All (formerly NARAL Pro-Choice America) was founded in 1969, before Roe v. Wade was decided, and the foundation was formed in 1977 to provide a policy and educational complement to the political and advocacy work.

In June 2022, the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade – demonstrating a blatant disregard for our fundamental freedoms. Anti-abortion extremists immediately rushed to enact and enforce state abortion bans, decimating access to abortion across the country.

In 2023, NARAL launched our next chapter as Reproductive Freedom for All to meet the extraordinary challenges of the moment. Our mission is to protect and advance freedom for everybody. With more Americans than ever supporting abortion rights, we are charting a path forward to mobilize this new and expanded base of support.

We have a clear north star: Establish equitable access to abortion and reproductive rights in the U.S. by building a powerful grassroots movement for reproductive freedom. It's a multi-decade fight that requires sustained, long-term investment. In this moment, we must continue to build the organizing infrastructure to create a wider, more inclusive home for reproductive freedom activists. We will never stop fighting for all people to have the freedom to decide if, when, and how to start or grow a family.

What specifically do you do?

Reproductive Freedom for All Foundation is uniquely suited to harness the energy of the 8 in 10 Americans who support the right to abortion. We have more than 4 million members across all 50 states, and we are working to build a membership as diverse as the people impacted by this issue. Organizing and building power is in our DNA — and we aim to leverage that inherent strength in an equitable way. Here's how we work:

- Education: We’re informing Americans about what’s at stake for reproductive freedom and democracy more broadly, while leveraging our research and communications program to inoculate against the spread of disinformation and drive the conversation around reproductive freedom.

- Organizing: We’re catalyzing the flood of energy and outrage stemming from the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade and building a massive, diverse, and sustainable grassroots movement — creating a wider, inclusive home for newly energized activists.

- Mobilizing: Leading with our values, we’re equipping our members, activists, and the millions of young people across the country who have been stripped of their rights with the tools to take action — to stop anti-abortion bills, restore the right to abortion, and make reproductive freedom a reality in all 50 states, Washington, DC, and at the federal level.

How will this make a difference?

Reproductive Freedom for All’s work is designed to protect and expand reproductive freedom — including access to abortion care, birth control, paid parental leave, and protections from pregnancy discrimination. Our work benefits anyone in the U.S. seeking or impacted by reproductive health care — something that increasingly is limited or cut off for millions of people, including women; Black, Indigenous, and people of color; those working to make ends meet; LGBTQ+ people; immigrants; young people; those living in rural communities; and people with disabilities.

We are working to create the foundation needed to build toward lasting change, i.e. stopping abortion bans and restoring, protecting, and expanding access. At the same time, your support will also help us grow the movement, build community, and empower a whole new wave of people with the tools and training to create the very change they seek.

How is your work different from that of other, similar charities?

With more than 4 million members across the country, who are ready to take action at a moment's notice, we are pushing for progress at both the national and state level. We also have the experience to leverage our comprehensive, in-depth communications and research program to drive the narrative around abortion in key states across the country.

Reproductive Freedom for All doesn't operate or litigate — we educate, activate, mobilize, and organize. We work in coalition with other partners across the movements for reproductive health, rights, and justice who do direct services, advocacy, or litigation, by bringing our political and organizing power to the table. Collaboration is part of our organizational values. To achieve our collective aims, we need the power that comes from collaboration within the movements, and the broader progressive movements, as well as the institutions that make up our communities. We build power in the movement by building power within each organization.

What have you accomplished?

Reproductive Freedom for All’s differentiated work in communications, research, and organizing drive our critical work forward every day.

We harness the power of our more than 4 million members in creative, strategic ways to drive change at the federal and state level. Leveraging an innovative distributed organizing model, we are mobilizing our staff, Action Councils, dedicated volunteer-leaders, and members, who are on the ground in all 50 states.

We have built a comprehensive, state-of-the-art communications and research program that tracks and counteracts anti-abortion disinformation while driving the national conversation around reproductive freedom — including getting Facebook and YouTube to permanently deplatform the extremist anti-abortion website LifeSiteNews in 2021. We educate lawmakers, shape media narratives, and train people to spot and combat disinformation in their communities.

Through our game-changing, sophisticated research program, Reproductive Freedom for All has spent years investing in and developing an innovative, data-driven, and proven approach, based in cognitive and behavioral science, to identify how to best activate our base and engage those who are still conflicted on abortion, while countering anti-abortion attacks.
