Children's Fund
Because we care about orphans and vulnerable children who lack the resources and support they need to thrive, we provide for their welfare and education, rescuing them from abuse and exploitation, and providing opportunities for them to get an education.
Children's Fund helps children in need in the US and in less developed countries. In the US, we fill gaps in services to help children who would otherwise not have the chance to succeed. In the 17 other countries where we have had projects, we can accomplish more than most other charities because we rely on local people who care about the children in their area and want to support the projects. We can accomplish a great deal more than many other organizations because we have many volunteers who work with us, and over 95% of our budget goes to our program expenses.
The founder visited multiple countries and met with people in many remote communities who were working together to benefit the most vulnerable children in their areas. She found that direct contributions to their work had a much greater impact than other means of providing assistance.
Over the last 27 years, we have supported over 40 projects in 18 countries providing a range of assistance depending on local needs as determined by community leaders. These have included providing for the care and support of orphans and vulnerable children in Costa Rica, Egypt, Haiti, India, Liberia, Pakistan, Peru, Uganda, and Zambia. We have supported Afghan refugees, built a hospital playground in Khazastan, and bought a bus for youth to attend job training in Egypt.. We have also conducted a computer camp for disadvantaged youth in the US and supported youth in foster care. Here is an inspiring Christmas celebration at a home for orphans that we support in India.
Your support enables us to serve more vulnerable children around the world. Because the cost of living in most other countries where we work is so much lower than in the US, the funds we provide can do much more good than one might expect. Where we are working, there is no safety net of social services for vulnerable children. Our support is life-changing for many of them. We are giving hundreds of children hope and an opportunity for a better future year after year.
Children's Fund works with grassroots community leaders to support the needs identified in the local community. In India, we began working with a local association to provide housing for youth who needed a place to live so they could attend school. The home we built has provided a caring and supportive environment for many children over the last ten years. Children's Fund has a direct connection to each of the projects that are supported and on site oversight is provided.
- In India, Children’s Fund has supported 50 children in a youth hostel children each year for the last 13 years. As some finished their schooling, they were replaced by younger children. We have provided school supplies, uniforms, shoes, and food for over 300 children.
- In Zambia, we built a community school for 200 children and are supporting their teachers and providing supplies and educational materials.
- Also in Zambia, we are supporting 25 orphans, providing food, clothing, and school supplies. We sent 4 students to college and recently one graduated. We bought computers for the children and are paying for an instructor.
- In Liberia, we have supported 12 children from middle school to college.
- In Peru, we have provided school supplies, clothing, and shoes for over 100 children in rural Andean villages.
Children's Fund spends more than 95% of revenue on program expenses year after year. Accountability is very important to us, and we take measures are taken to ensure that the funds we spend on a project are used for the intended purposes. We visit project sites and record progress on the activities being conducted. We maintain a personal connection with the project leaders and are in regular communication with them. We are all committed to ensuring that the funds we receive are spent to improve the lives of vulnerable children.
