In order to fully conquer this devastating disease, NFCR funds scientists and laboratories worldwide to study cancer at its most fundamental level. Currently, our projects include improving cancer prevention strategies, developing early-detection tools and advancing targeted cancer therapies.
For nearly 50 years, NFCR has provided critical seed funding that has allowed researchers to pursue breakthroughs in cancer research.
NFCR supports research to study the disease of cancer, as a genetic mutation, which can be cured. By understanding cancer, as a disease, our research will lead to the cure of ALL cancers.
Therapeutic development in the pre-clinical stage is an expensive and risky investment, and some of the most promising cancer discoveries are failing due to the lack of seed funding before they can get to the clinic.
In 2019, the National Foundation for Cancer Research launched the AIM-HI Translational Research Initiative to address this unmet need and provide oncology startups with the resources to drive innovative discoveries out of the lab, to the clinics, and eventually to the people battling cancer.
Since 1973 we have invested nearly $410 million in public awareness of cancer prevention, early detection and treatment options and cutting-edge cancer research -- the type of research directly responsible for so many recent breakthroughs, such as a molecular understanding of cancer.
NFCR provides the “seed” money that enables scientists to carry out novel approaches, resulting in breakthrough discoveries. We empower brilliant scientists to go beyond what is standard to what is extraordinary.
We are one of few charities willing to take risks and fund the most innovative ideas in cancer research before anybody shows any interest. These new ideas often open critical new fields in cancer research. NFCR has distinguished itself in the cancer research community by funding high-risk, high-impact, long-term, and transformative research programs with the help of more than 5.3 million individual donors over the last 50 years.

NFCR is audited annually by an independent, certified public accounting firm. This independent audit requires compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and the guidelines issued by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA).
