Supporting and Empowering Survivors of Brain Injury, Stroke, and Concussion

Brain Injury Services provides innovative programs to assist children and adult survivors of traumatic brain injury, stroke and concussion to build the skills and confidence they need to thrive.

Why should I support your work?

You should support the work of Brain Injury Services because it is the most comprehensive and cost-effective solution for survivors of traumatic brain injury, stroke, and concussion. Our programs provide services to survivors who often have difficulty finding assistance from organizations that understand unique goals and needs. By supporting Brain Injury Services, you are helping children and adults connect with programs that will guide them down the road of recovery on their own terms and at their own pace.

Why does your charity exist?

Brain Injury Services exists because there is no other focused service for brain injury survivors in Northern Virginia. Since its inception, Brain Injury Services has grown from a small pilot program to an organization that serves over 500 families a year – helping them build the skills and confidence they need to lead a productive and fulfilling life. We exist today because demand for our services continues to rise. Whether it is a veteran returning from combat with a traumatic brain injury or a young girl who needs more specialized help at school, Brain Injury Services is here to address the unique needs that survivors of brain injury face in life after their injury.

What specifically do you do?

Serving residents throughout the Northern Virginia, Rappahannock, and Winchester areas, Brain Injury Services has proven itself to be the most comprehensive solution for survivors of traumatic brain injury, stroke, and concussion. At Brain Injury Services, survivors are paired with a case manager who will help each client develop a plan that takes into account their unique goals and needs. Clients will be introduced specialized programs and support groups that will assist them in meeting their goals.

How will this make a difference?

The programs and services at Brain Injury Services make a difference in the lives of each survivor distinctively. For one client, it means returning to work after years of unemployment, while for another, it means securing a stable housing situation so that the client can go to bed without worrying about where they will sleep the next night. Our person-centered approach means that we are helping each survivor accomplish the goals which they set themselves. This method maximizes the impact that each client experiences. When a survivor comes to Brain Injury Services, they can trust that they will be seen for who they are and not be plugged into a preset formula.

How is your work different from that of other, similar charities?

Brain Injury Services is the only resource in our community that exclusively addresses the unique needs of survivors of brain injury. Our comprehensive service offerings, leadership team, and years of experience in the industry is recognized throughout the country. Couple this expertise with our person-centered approach and each survivor experiences the most comprehensive solution available for survivors of brain injury.

What have you accomplished?

Since 1989, Brain Injury Services has developed innovative programs to assist thousands of children and adult survivors. We have been recognized for this work in many ways including being named the 2014 Nonprofit of the Year by our local chamber of commerce. Our work continues to be highlighted by local media outlets as brain injury continues to gain more attention across the country.
