For over a century, Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA) has been a relentless champion for reproductive health and rights. As the national umbrella organization for Planned Parenthood affiliates across the country, PPFA provides support to Planned Parenthood health centers, and engages in education, research, advocacy, and public policy in the areas of sexual and reproductive health and rights.
Our work has become even more critical. Erasing nearly 50 years of precedent, the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization opened the floodgates for states seeking to ban abortion. Nearly one in three women of reproductive age, plus transgender and nonbinary people, have lost all or nearly all access to abortion in their home state.

PPFA is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization that supports the independently incorporated Planned Parenthood affiliates operating health centers across the U.S. PPFA also leverages technology to help millions of people get reliable information and find the care they seek. For example:
- PPFA’s flagship website, www.plannedparenthood.org, attracts nearly 200 million visits annually from people searching for accurate sexual and reproductive health information, including nearly 8,000 people who visit Planned Parenthood online every day seeking abortion.
- Our abortion service locator has received more than 1.5 million visits to date this year, and nearly two-thirds of those clicked through to view abortion appointment options.
- Roo — our artificial intelligence-powered chatbot designed to provide young people with personalized, nonjudgmental answers to their sexual health questions — has held more than 3 million conversations since its launch in January 2019. Roo can also connect users with a trained health educator via our Chat/Text program or help them find the nearest Planned Parenthood health center.
- The largest digital education program of its kind, PPFA’s Chat/Text service fields approximately 15,000 conversations per month from young people seeking answers to their sexual health questions from trusted educators in real time. In addition to facilitating conversations in English and Spanish, Chat/Text links users to care — one in three conversations results in the booking of a health center appointment.
PPFA works to maximize access to equitable, sustainable, and expanded delivery of education and high-quality health care at Planned Parenthood affiliate health centers, especially for patients who face the most barriers; and catalyze a world where sexual and reproductive health and freedom are accessible to all.
For example, PPFA bolsters the capacity of affiliates to meet patient needs with quality care, including through clinical and operational support, telehealth, and innovative digital tools.
To counter threats to reproductive health and rights — including abortion bans in 21 states as of this writing and other harmful restrictions — PPFA conducts public education, policy analysis, and litigation.
In addition, PPFA provides accurate sexual and reproductive health information online to help people make the health decisions that are best for them.
