How do you help people in my community?

All VFW Foundation programs have a national emphasis. In other words, we are involved in implementing services wherever there is a need all across America (in all fifty states). For example, our Unmet Needs program has most likely helped deserving military families who need financial assistance in your community. For instance, we might have paid for the car repair of a military wife who has little financial resources while her husband was in Iraq.

We are also involved with ensuring that students understand civic responsibility and patriotism. Each year, through two programs, Patriot’s Pen and Voice of Democracy, we provide money for college scholarships to thousands of America’s youth. Other activities include helping veterans obtain VA entitlements, sending care packages to troops abroad, free telephone cards to troops abroad and in military hospitals so they can talk with those they love on a regular basis, etc.

Why do you need my support?

Yes, your gift (of any amount) means a great deal to those we serve. Our vision has always been to help veterans, troops and military families to the fullest of our abilities. After all these individuals have often endured great personal sacrifice for our country and we are honored to help them out in their time of need.

While there are other military-assistance non-profit groups, we strongly believe that the VFW Foundation has many unique and urgently needed programs that are unlike any other in America. Our nationwide system of program implementation is the standard in our field. Furthermore, our long history of strict financial accountability ensures that your donation will make an incredible and positive difference.

How can I be sure that you will use my money wisely and won't waste it?

The administrative costs of the VFW Foundation are extremely low at 6.4%. That means that for every donation dollar we receive approximately 94 cents goes directly to those we so ably assist. All of our programs are free and impartial with no affiliation with the VFW required for aid. One of our programs, Unmet Needs, actually directs 100% of all donations directly to deserving military families!

You can be assured that we will use your donation wisely. Charity watchdog groups like the Independent Charities of America gave the VFW Foundation a “Best of America” rating, an honor bestowed to only 1,500 of some 50,000 non-profit groups. Our Foundation also achieved full inclusion in the Combined Federal Campaign (CFC #10511) due to our consistent low operating costs.
