Citizen's organization dedicated to improving the mental health of residents of San Francisco through advocacy, education, research and service. MHA-SF programs promote prevention, access to services, leadership and independence.
How do you help people in my community?
For each person trained in our tenant leadership program, dozens hear the message. In some cases, participants have gone on to lead the training itself.
Why do you need my support?
Your money goes a long way with us, regardless of whether you make a small or large gift. For every twenty people we train, a thousand benefit. We push for one piece of legislation and it brings millions of dollars to San Francisco. A dedicated team of people make up MHA-SF, and that is why we are an established, respected organization that will be around for a long time. We depend on the contributions of forward-thinking individuals who want this kind of systemic change.
In the past 60 years, we’ve come a long way in our efforts to eliminate the stigma of mental illness and help San Franciscans recover from mental illness. People with a mental illness no longer are locked in institutions and chained to their beds. But invisible shackles remain. We envision a society where all people have the opportunity to achieve their full potential, free from stigma and shame. With your help, we can come closer to reaching this vision. Imagine what we’ll be able to accomplish in the next 60 years with your support.
How can I be sure that you will use my money wisely and won't waste it?
MHA-SF is managed by a six-member board, including a president, vice president, secretary, and treasurer. The board oversees finances, ensuring that the organization remains accountable in all its operations.
MHA-SF has an overhead of 12% and is audited annually by an independent auditor. The organization has a small but dedicated staff who are devoted to accomplishing the mission of improving the mental health and well being of San Francisco residents.
MHA-SF updates its strategic plan every few years and reassesses the needs of the San Francisco community in order to adapt to the ever changing social landscape and environment of the city.
