How do you help people in my community?
LRR works in the metropolitan Washington, D.C. community to help rescue, rehabilitate and rehome abused, abandoned and neglected Labrador Retrievers. LRR along with licensed veterinarians provides free rabies shots at vaccination events. LRR provides medical treatment for labs in need to enable wonderful dogs to live pain free.
LRR has labs that visit local nursing homes to visit with the elderly. LRR also works with Walter Reeds Army Medical Center to provide supplies for their Dog Tags Program that assists soldiers in recovery and rehabilitation when they return from the war.
Why do you need my support?
Many of the labbies come from situations of neglect and require extensive medical attention prior to placement in a forever home. LRR ensures each dog is spayed or neutered, up to date on all of their shots including rabies, distemper and bordatella, heartworm negative, does not have any other medical needs such as surgeries or infections. Ensuring the health of all dogs throughout the year can be costly.
How can I be sure that you will use my money wisely and won't waste it?
We are an all-volunteer organization. Every dollar given goes to the rehabiltation and care of abused and neglected animals.
Can I Volunteer? How?
LRR is an all-volunteer organization. As such, the number of dogs we are able to help is directly proportional to the number of volunteers we have. There are several important tasks performed by LRR volunteers in the MD/VA/DC area including foster homes, transport, home visits and evaluation. LRR is currently in need of foster homes.
