Focus on the Family

Nonprofit Christian organization dedicated to helping families thrive through faith-based resources, multimedia outreaches and counseling services that support a variety of marriage, parenting and life-stage needs.

How do you help people in my community?

Because of its strong media presence and emphasis upon mass communication, the reach of Focus on the Family’s ministry is practically unlimited. Our daily 30-minute “flagship” broadcast is heard on 4,400 facilities in over 150 countries.  And that’s just the beginning!  We reach more than 2.3 million people each month through the many other radio programs, videos, films, books, and audio resources we produce.  Add that to our new and growing presence on the World Wide Web, and you will quickly realize that Focus has the potential to touch the lives of individuals in almost every home in every community across the nation and around the world. The work of Focus on the Family is truly universal and personal at the same time.

Why do you need my support?

Focus on the Family is able to continue as a vital force in the world of evangelistic outreach and family ministry only because of freewill contributions. We are entirely dependent upon donations from our friends and supporters. Every gift to the ministry, of whatever size, makes a significant difference; every donation is needed and appreciated; every penny is invested in the crucial, ongoing task of reaching families and individuals with messages of hope and new life. More than seventy separate ministries now operate under the umbrella of the Focus organization, each with its respective catalog of ongoing projects. Naturally, the cost of maintaining these programs has increased along with the size and scope of the ministries themselves. And as we look toward the future, we are hoping to extend our reach even further – to impact more lives than ever before. In short, expansion is essential to our vision for the months and years ahead. And expansion is always expensive.

Key to our strategy for the future is the continued development of our growing Option Ultrasound™ program.  Since its launch in January 2004, we have placed hundreds of sonogram machines in Pregnancy Resource Centers across the country so that women can “see” their pre-born little ones in the womb.  Our goal is to establish a total of 650 services by the year 2010.  Already, it is estimated that 8,500 babies may have potentially been saved as a result of this outreach.

Another way we have sought to reach out to families is through a nationwide initiative called How to Drug Proof Your Kids (DPYK).  With illegal drug use on the rise, DPYK is an important way in which Focus can equip parents with the tools and strategies they need in order to more effectively steer their children away from the harmful effects of drugs.  In 2006 alone, 233 facilitators received training, and we expect thousands of parents to experience the benefits of DPYK through their excellent leadership.

Aside from such large-scale programs, we have made it a daily priority to touch the lives of individuals and families through our growing online presence, a vast array of relevant materials, private counseling, and personal correspondence.  We believe that nothing compares to the potential life-long impact that one-on-one interaction holds for our constituents.

How can I be sure that you will use my money wisely and won't waste it?

Here at Focus on the Family we consider the contributions we receive to be “blood money” sent from loving people who have sacrificed to make their gifts possible. Our obligation, therefore, is to spend that money conservatively and wisely in continuing the ministry. We have no limousines or airplanes or condos in Hawaii. Every penny is stretched as far as possible to serve the needs of today’s families. As a way of securing accountability in this area, Focus on the Family enrolled itself many years ago as a member organization of the Evangelical Council for Financial Accountability (ECFA), an affiliation we have kept up throughout our history. We remain committed to abiding by the standards established by the ECFA and the Canadian Council of Christian Charities (CCCC), both of which were founded to ensure ethical fund-raising and administration practices among Christian non-profit organizations.

Can I Volunteer? How?

Absolutely! Focus on the Family has a large and growing force of enthusiastic volunteers. We would love to hear from anyone 18 years of age or older who has a willing heart and a desire to serve. For more information, please call (800) 531-1626.
