Nonprofit Christian organization dedicated to helping families thrive through faith-based resources, multimedia outreaches and counseling services that support a variety of marriage, parenting and life-stage needs.
Why do we exist?
Focus on the Family® is a nonprofit, faith-based organization dedicated to helping families thrive.
We believe that the keys to a strong, healthy family can be found in the truths and principles of God’s Word. And by reaching out to hurting families where they are, we can establish a relationship that enables us to communicate Christ’s love with enhanced credibility and effectiveness. In our opinion, this is what sets Focus apart from many other Christian ministry organizations.
What have you accomplished?
Each day, millions are touched with help, hope and healing for a variety of individual and family needs. From practical, faith-based support for everyday parenting concerns to trusted counsel for serious struggles, millions have benefited from our ministry. A few of our most popular and effective efforts include:
Life-changing family broadcasts Today, Dr. Dobson’s daily “Focus on the Family” broadcast and commentaries are heard on 7,130 radio stations in 27 languages in 160 countries—touching over 220 million listeners each day. From award-winning Adventures in Odyssey® and Focus on the Family Radio
Theatre® to Family News in Focus®, we’re providing spiritual encouragement and advice for the whole family.
Encouragement for parents Focus on the Family offers customized resources to help parents raise healthy, well-rounded children—from infants and toddlers through the teen years and beyond. We provide step-by-step guidance for raising kids who know and love God through programs like Focus on Your Child®, How to Drug Proof Your Kids®, and interactive Parenting Forums featuring some of today’s top parenting experts.
Resources for strong, healthy marriages Marriage is one of God’s most incredible gifts—not only to individual families but to society as a whole. That’s why we strive to support couples and their unique needs as well as to protect the institution of marriage in the public square. From premarital resources like the Couple Checkup™ relationship assessment to Love and Respect® conferences, counseling services, Marriage Forums and more, we’re helping marriages thrive.
Youth outreach We believe that every teenager needs a passionate, personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Our goal is to provide the resources and community for young believers to grow, interact and discover God’s purpose for their lives. From faith-based teen magazines to our Big Dig® and Stand apologetics conferences, parent-teen events and more, we’re encouraging future leaders to reach their full potential in Christ.
Collegiate ministries The transitional years between leaving home and starting a family are crucial in a young person’s faith walk. Our goal is to equip young believers with everything they need to graduate with their faith not only intact, but stronger than it was before. The Focus on the Family Institute® is an intensive semester-long leadership program for college students desiring to impact their culture for Christ. TrueU.org® is our online outreach for college students who want to know and confidently discuss the Christian worldview. And Boundless® provides an award-winning webzine, blog and podcast community for 20-somethings.
Counseling ministry Sometimes, life’s challenges can be overwhelming. Our counseling and correspondence departments are pleased to provide confidential, caring support to those in need—absolutely free of charge. We even offer prayer support, helpful resources and local counseling referrals for continued care. And since difficult questions and concerns don’t always arise during business hours, help is available 24/7 on our online resource center.
[Sanctity of human life] If you affirm the sanctity of human life, we invite you to stand with us for those who are defenseless and lack a voice, including the elderly, orphaned and pre-born. Option Ultrasound™, one of our most exciting programs, is estimated to have saved tens of thousands of babies in the past years alone. We’ve found that 91% of all abortion-minded mothers choose to carry their babies to term after receiving counseling services and viewing an ultrasound. That’s why we’re so passionate about providing complimentary ultrasound machines and training services in pregnancy resource centers across the United States, Canada and beyond.
Our Orphan Care Initiative equips churches to embrace God’s heart for the orphan—an effort described as “pure religion” by Christ Himself. With your help, we can continue providing guidance and direction to families interested in adoption and foster care.
[Sharing God’s truth] We’re helping believers confirm and defend their faith through dynamic, engaging programs designed for today’s Christian. Focus on the Family’s The Truth Project® is an inspiring Christian worldview curriculum that’s equipping believers worldwide to share and defend their faith. Participants of all ages and backgrounds receive a total immersion into the innumerable ways God has made Himself known in the world—and how to share the truth with others.
No Apologies® global abstinence outreach Our character-based abstinence curriculum has reached more than 2 million students around the globe—allowing us to share God’s truth in areas where we would not otherwise be welcome. This dynamic video curriculum promotes God’s plan for sexuality as the only true form of “safe sex,” equipping young people with confidence to make wise choices.
Love Won Out® Love Won Out strives to uphold God’s design for sexuality in a way that transforms lives, impacts our culture and equips the local church to respond in a Christ like way to the issue of homosexuality. Through powerful one-day conferences, we’re educating and empowering friends and family to reach out with compassion and grace to loved ones struggling with same-sex attractions.
Troubledwith.com™ internet outreach In response to our culture’s increasing demand for convenient and confident online answers, we’ve developed a Web site to provide both immediate help and long-term hope for life’s most difficult challenges—specifically geared toward those not familiar with Judeo-Christian values. Each visitor has access to answers, counseling referrals and the opportunity to make a personal connection with a Focus on the Family staff member.
Church ministries The pressures of ministry lifestyle can be overwhelming. That’s why we seek to come alongside our church leaders with the encouragement they need to better care for their families and congregations. The Parsonage® Web site, Pastor to Pastor® audio series and our toll-free Pastoral Care Line, staffed by pastors who understand the emotional and spiritual demands of full-time ministry, are just some of the ways we’re supporting our shepherds.
Join us. With your help, we can continue providing life-changing support to families in need. For more information on our ministry initiatives and how you can get involved, visit FocusOnTheFamily.Com
