Children Awaiting Parents is a national information and referral service dedicated to finding permanent adoptive families for America's Special Needs children who have been abandoned, neglected and abused.
How do you help people in my community?
Biological families who no longer have the option of staying together need to be assured that the best resources available will be provided to keep their children healthy and in a safe environment. CAP assists adoptive and prospective adoptive families in all communities by finding ways of connecting them with waiting children. CAP implements recruitment efforts such as the Adoption Link newsletter, which has a readership of just under 10,000, the CAP website, www.capbook.org and the national website FACES of Adoption, www.adopt.org.
Why do you need my support?
Children Awaiting Parents, Inc. (CAP) has set three new program objectives for 2000-2001.
The first is to redesign The CAP Book and enhance our website (www.capbook.org). Through desktop publishing and donor contributions we will begin publishing our book with enhanced color photos of waiting children. These children will also be featured on our website, exposing them to further recruiting efforts.
The second initiative is the expansion of our family resource referral center. Students from our local colleges who are pursuing degrees in social work will staff this center. In 2001, we will expand our response hours to accommodate families throughout the nation who are seeking information and support.
Our final objective is the development of a multiple relational database management system. Prospective adoptive parents will be tracked to insure completion of training and to maintain continued interest. This system will enable CAP to interactively record information and identify matches between our special needs children and prospective parents. Our ultimate goal of finding permanent and loving placements for our children while using child-specific recruitment strategies will be enhanced by this new system.
