Women's Sports Foundation

The Women's Sports Foundation leads the movement for equal play in sports.  We get girls active, build physically and emotionally healthy lives, fight discrimination and give voices to women athletes.

How do you help people in my community?

The Women’s Sports Foundation is national in scope and we know that change in communities is accomplished through grass roots efforts.  We endeavor to create participation opportunities for girls and women everywhere.

To enhance our efforts, the Foundation manages a corps of Community Action Programs, grassroots organizations that encourage local communities to support and celebrate participation of girls and women in sports and fitness. "CAPs" recognize female athletes, coaches, businesses, and volunteers who support girls' and women's opportunities, and undertake other activities in support of women's sports and athletics.

Why do you need my support?

Each and every gift is important to the Foundation and we are sincerely grateful for the support we receive.  Contributions from individuals like you is essential to our ability to operate programs on national and grassroots levels and allows the Women’s Sports Foundation to respond to gender equity issues that are often overlooked and under resourced.

How can I be sure that you will use my money wisely and won't waste it?

More than 80 cents of every dollar directly supports programming for girls and women.  Since our inception, we have been, and continue to be, dedicated to managing our resources in a way that ensures the continued trust of our donors and to providing quality programming to advance the lives of girls and women.  For cost efficiency, our national office is located outside of New York City.  The Foundation’s intern program has given hundreds of college students the opportunity to develop leadership skills and career advancement opportunities while providing cost-efficient support to the Information Referral Service and departmental work to enhance programming efforts.

The Foundation’s volunteer corps serve in a variety of capacities including: grant judging panels (50 people), pro bono attorney services relating to Title IX issues (100 people), fundraisers (225 people), and standing committees (25 people).

In addition, our Board of Directors includes a Finance Committee that meets monthly for budget review and analysis.  We are audited annually by an independent accounting firm.

Finally, the Foundation has met all accountability standards for Better Business Bureau Giving Alliance and Guidestar and leads our peers with a four-star rating from Charity

Can I Volunteer? How?

The Women’s Sports Foundation maintains a national database of more than 400 volunteers, and we remain eager to include anyone interested in donating their time.  Volunteers serve in a variety of capacities including: grant judging panels, pro bono attorney services relating to Title IX issues, fundraisers, and standing committees.

In addition, we have community-based field offices in Atlanta, Chicago and San Antonio.  Volunteers assist staff at Open House events, fundraisers and similar functions.

If you are interested in volunteering, please contact the Foundation at (800) 227-3988, or via email at: info@womenssportsfoundation.org..
