Supported through donations, The Women's Center is a counseling, education and information resource that provides psychological, career, financial and legal services to women and families regardless of ability to pay.
How do you help people in my community?
The Women’s Center provides comprehensive programs and services in four core areas: psychological, professional development, legal and financial counseling and education. The Center’s COMPASS (Community Outreach Model Program to Advance Self-Sufficiency), a bi-lingual neighborhood-based program, provides a continuum of services for low-income and immigrant communities in the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area.
Why do you need my support?
The Women’s Center operates in a managed care environment that severely limits fees for mental health services. As a result, every year we face an increased gap between income from fee-funded services and the cost of operating the Center. Your gift, whether small or large, will help us narrow this gap.
How can I be sure that you will use my money wisely and won't waste it?
With a 19% overhead, you can be assured that your donation is directed to programs and services that help women, men and families achieve self-sufficiency. In addition, the Center’s dedicated Board of Directors provides the guidance and oversight necessary to ensure that your dollars are working hard for those in need in our local communities. In 1999, The Women’s Center was recognized as one of 10 semi-finalists in The 1999 Washington Post Award for Excellence in Nonprofit Management.
Can I Volunteer? How?
More than 1,200 volunteers from all ages and backgrounds contribute their time and talents to The Women’s Center each year. Examples of volunteer involvement includes but is not limited to the ICAN Mentoring program, the Leadership Conference and the Information and Referral Desk.
