Whitman-Walker Clinic

As the leading provider of HIV/AIDS services in the Washington, DC metropolitan area, thousands turn to us each year for medical and mental health treatment, addictions treatment and social support.

How do you help people in my community?

Nationwide, African Americans and Latinos account for 73 percent of all new HIV infections. In DC, new AIDS cases among women occur at a rate 10 times the national average. HIV/AIDS knows no boundaries. It affects us all.

At Whitman-Walker, we work to serve all communities in the DC metropolitan area. Our programs reach out to those most at risk, including African Americans, Latinos, women and gay men. But we also work to reach everyone in the region with the message of HIV prevention and treatment because EVERYONE is at risk for HIV infection.

Why do you need my support?

Washington, DC has a rate of new AIDS cases that is 12 times the national average. Since people are now living with HIV/AIDS for a much longer time, the need for our services is greater than ever. In addition, many of our clients come to us for help when they cannot go anywhere else. They may be poor or homeless or suffering from addictions or other mental health issues. No one is turned away from help at Whitman-Walker because they cannot pay.

And half of our annual budget comes from private donations. Your gift, regardless of the size, can make a huge difference.

How can I be sure that you will use my money wisely and won't waste it?

Whitman-Walker Clinic works hard to ensure that the majority of money raised goes to help those in need. Of all funds raised, 85 percent goes to client services. Only 15 percent is used for administrative costs.
