Recruits and trains lawyers to provide free representation to America's veterans and family members with valid appeals at the U.S. Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims.
How do you help people in my community?
Our Program, like the Court, is one of national scope and impact. The veterans we help live in all fifty states, our territories, and even overseas. Within the “community” of this great nation, we assist those who have defended her. The representation we provide through pro bono attorneys at the Court enables veterans to win much needed benefits for veterans and their families.
Why do you need my support?
Donated funds allowed Program to provide information about the Program and the appellate process to veterans seeking assistance as well as inform veterans service organizations around the country that we are here to help their members. Donated funds also finance travel for the volunteer attorneys representing veterans to come to Washington, DC, to represent their clients in oral argument before the Court.
How can I be sure that you will use my money wisely and won't waste it?
When one makes a donation to any kind of organization, the primary basis for presuming the money will be wisely spent is trust and trust is something that can only be earned. We hope that we have earned the trust of veterans we have served over the past nineteen years. Beyond our efforts to earn the trust of those we serve, our staff includes two retired naval officers, former Air Force and Army enlisted personnel, the wife of a retired Coast Guard officer whose son-in-law will be deploying to Iraq, the mother of an soldier wounded in Iraq, the Grandmother of a soldier soon to begin his second deployment, and the father of a Marine aviator. We can say, to a certainty, that we would not betray the trust of those who have and will serve this Nation.
Additionally, the Program comes under the auspices of the Legal Services Corporation and receives funding through the U.S. Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims funding process. An executive board exercises oversight of the Program’s operations and its fiscal policies and consists of members of the private bar and senior officials from each of our supporting organizations, American Legion, Disabled American Veterans, National Veterans Legal Services Program and Paralyzed Veterans of America.
Can I Volunteer? How?
Given the nature of the Program’s mission, volunteers must be attorneys. If you are interested in receiving the training required to join the Program as a volunteer attorney, please see www.vetsprobono.org or contact the Program at (202)628-8164.
