Animals suffer terribly in today’s factory farms. We convert people to vegetarianism by handing our powerful booklets to thousands of pedestrians each day, focusing on college and high school students.
Why do we exist?
Ninety-nine percent of animals killed in the U.S. each year are killed to be eaten; each year more than 9 billion mammals and birds are raised in factory farms and killed for food in this country. While animal agriculture is certainly not the only form of animal abuse, it is by far the largest. If 5% of Americans were to stop eating animals, far more suffering would be prevented than if we completely abolished every other form of animal exploitation in the United States. Vegan Outreach exists to expose and end this cruelty to animals through the widespread distribution of our illustrated booklets: Why Vegan, Even If You Like Meat, and Compassionate Choices, along with our follow-up Guide to Cruelty-Free Eating.
What have you accomplished?
In August of 2003, VO launched our Adopt A College program which has now resulted in volunteers handing out over two million brochures on more than 1100 campuses.
As shown by excerpts of feedback printed in the VO newsletters and eNewsletters, there are many new vegetarians and vegans because of Why Vegan, Even If You Like Meat, and Compassionate Choices, with the number growing every day.
