Named as one of the Washington Region's "best small charities" by the Catalogue of Philanthropy, VSC provides practical assistance to inmates at the DC Jail.
How do you help people in my community?
We help inmates connect with jobs, training, housing, drug and alcohol treatments. Some inmates can't read or write - we assist them with letters and with understanding written communication to them.
Why do you need my support?
Any amount of support will help us continue the work we do.
How can I be sure that you will use my money wisely and won't waste it?
Most of our work is done by volunteers who are trained and supervised by our staff of 3.
Can I Volunteer? How?
Yes, call Betty Gatewood at 202-544-2131. Volunteer opportunities include working with inmates at the jail, doing casework in the office, working as a court representative, serving on our Board of Directors and working in fundraising.
