Vascular Disease Foundation

Heart attack, stroke, amputation and death are too often the result of vascular diseases. VDF works to prevent and fight vascular disease and help the more than 40 million Americans affected by vascular diseases.

How do you help people in my community?

VDF continues to expand the information it offers to increase public awareness of the most prevalent vascular diseases.  Our programs include a frequently updated, in-depth patient education web site ( www.vdf.org ), a free quarterly patient newsletter, creation and distribution of other informational patient materials, participation at nationwide conferences and symposia and most recently, spearheading a national coalition to raise awareness of peripheral arterial disease.  In local markets, we supply our educational materials and also support free public screenings for vascular disease.  We have also piloted multi-state public awareness campaigns.

Why do you need my support?

For any nonprofit organization, it’s the faithful support of individuals that makes a real financial impact.  This is especially true for a small, younger nonprofit like VDF.  Additionally, the fluctuating economy has meant that foundations and corporations are less likely than ever to provide operating support for nonprofit organizations.   And our organization doesn’t have the household name recognition that larger, older health-related organizations do.  Your gift will help underwrite our patient newsletter and our website, as well as development of new and updated materials for patients.

How can I be sure that you will use my money wisely and won't waste it?

We have a very low overhead and a small operating budget – yet we do a lot with a small amount. Additionally, we have a small staff, which results in low administrative costs. VDF works with an independent auditor as well as an independent certified public accountant, both of whom follow generally accepted accounting principals (GAAP) and make sure that the Foundation does, as well. Financial oversight is provided by the board of directors, which is made up of renowned vascular medical specialists.  To request a copy of our IRS Form 990, please call our office or go to www.guidestar.org to download a copy.

Can I Volunteer? How?

Please check our website frequently for volunteer opportunities.  If we have an event in your area, your help will be needed.
