St. Anthony Foundation provides a network of life-sustaining services to San Francisco's poor or homeless veterans, seniors, immigrants and others, and works on long-term solutions to homelessness and hunger.
How do you help people in my community?
The St. Anthony Dining Room serves an average of 2,000 hot, nourishing meals every day in a caring respectful setting. The St. Anthony Free Medical Clinic provides over 14,000 annual visits to the increasing number of adult and pediatric patients who have no health insurance or limited access to health care. Each month, the Clothing and Furniture Program provides 2,200 individuals and families with clothing and blankets, and also helps 120 families create more stable homes with furniture and other household items. Senior Outreach and Support Services offers case management, spiritual outreach, a drop-in program, and social activities for people over 60 to help them maintain their independence within the community. “The counselors bring out from us our self-respect, self-confidence, pride, and love of ourselves. They show us that we are worthy human beings and we should love ourselves for who we are. This love of ourselves will give us strength to live day to day. Everything here gives HOPE.” Victor, St. Anthony Farm Resident The Social Work Center provides social services and connects homeless, low-income, and working poor individuals and families to resources that can stabilize and improve the quality of their lives. The Madonna Residence honors the dignity of aging by offering safe, independent residential housing, support services and assisted living for low-income senior women. The St. Anthony Farm is a rural, residential rehabilitation setting for clients to recover from drug and alcohol addiction. Residents experienced physical, emotional, and spiritual healing while working in the organic dairy and garden. Farm graduates have the opportunity to continue their recovery in our transitional programs, which provide support in finding employment and housing. Seton Hall and Covenant House are primary and secondary urban residential drug and alcohol rehabilitation programs. Seton Hall residents work in the Dining Room, while Covenant House residents seek employment and housing as they transition to independent living. The Employment Program/Learning Center provides a supportive environment and resources to individuals left behind by welfare-to-work programs, helping them gain and maintain long-term employment. The Justice Education, Volunteer and Advocacy Program (JEVA) links the broader community to the people we serve. Each year, over 5,000 individuals spend a day at St. Anthony Foundation attending an orientation, volunteering, sharing lunch with our guests in St. Anthony Dining Room, and reflecting on the causes of and solutions to poverty. JEVA also works with St. Anthony Foundation staff, volunteers, donors, guests, and friends to advocate for public policy that promotes the common good and provides support for the most vulnerable members of our community.
Why do you need my support?
St. Anthony Foundation does not receive any government funding. We rely solely on the generosity and goodwill of the community to share the resources we need to administer our programs and provide for the tremendous needs of our homeless and low-income community. Every year, thousands of volunteers donate over 170,000 hours of service in our various programs. Our funding sources include private donations from individuals, corporations and other foundations. These and other vital collaborations enable us to provide respectful, compassionate services to the less fortunate men, women, and children in our community
How can I be sure that you will use my money wisely and won't waste it?
We seek to be good stewards of the gifts that have been given us and keep administrative and fundraising expenses at around 10% of our total operating budget. Approximately 90% of every donation will go into direct services for the homeless and low-income people we serve.
Can I Volunteer? How?
Our services are greatly enhanced by the personal involvement of thousands of volunteers each year. More than 170,000 hours of volunteer time are donated yearly. Without these vital partnerships, St. Anthony’s would not be able to provide the quality and quantity of personal services to our sisters and brothers in need.
