The Spina Bifida Association is dedicated to preventing Spina Bifida in future generations and improving the lives of those with Spina Bifida through education, advocacy, research and service.
How do you help people in my community?
SBA provides a range of educational and financial support and services to individuals and families across the country through the national office and through our network of 56 chapters and 172 clinics. Our chapters offer individuals and families fun activities such as the Stroll ‘n’ Roll and Bowl-a-thon fundraising events, support groups made up of caring individuals, summer camps for children, public health awareness and medical information and materials as well as educational scholarships.
Why do you need my support?
Your generous support will help us improve the quality of life for those who live with Spina Bifida and related secondary conditions; advocate for the fair and equal treatment, resources, research funding and other needs with policymakers and courts; develop and provide current information for those with Spina Bifida, their families and the general public; encourage the development of improved treatment and trained teams to care for all who are affected by Spina Bifida; create appropriate educational, vocational and community support to encourage self-determination and foster the acceptance, accessibility, inclusion and wellbeing of persons of all ages with Spina Bifida.
With extended life expectancy, individuals with Spina Bifida now face new challenges – education, job training, independent living, health care for secondary conditions and aging concerns, among others. Our advocacy initiatives include boosting funding for the National Spina Bifida Program to reduce and prevent suffering from Spina Bifida; strengthening our nation’s efforts to prevent and address birth defects, ensuring access to quality care for people affected by Spina Bifida and furthering our nation’s investment in biomedical research.
How can I be sure that you will use my money wisely and won't waste it?
We constantly do our best to exceed the standards set by other charities and expect to continue improving on our investment in achieving our mission. Since we are a non-profit, our goal is not to make money ourselves but to serve the Spina Bifida Community. We maintain low overhead and through our volunteers, staff members and board members, we provide vital and informative programs and services for the entire Spina Bifida Community. We strive to make sure that every dollar we spend is working hard for those in need.
Can I Volunteer? How?
Volunteers are vital to the day-to-day functioning of all of our chapters. There are many volunteer opportunities at our chapters in your communities across the country. We encourage you to contact them. Contact information is readily available via our website at http://www.sbaa.org or via this toll-free number 1-800-621-3141.
