The Sierra Club Foundation

Funds charitable programs for The Sierra Club to promote smart energy solutions, protect wildlife and habitat, stop pollution, build healthy communities, educate the public and ensure enforcement of environmental laws.

Why do we exist?

The mission of The Sierra Club Foundation is to advance the preservation and protection of the natural environment by empowering the citizenry, especially democratically based grassroots organizations, with charitable resources to further the cause of environmental protection.  The Sierra Club is the vehicle though which TSCF fulfills its chartable mission.

What have you accomplished?

TSCF supported Building Environmental Communities Campaign used local momentum to win environmental victories that are putting pressure on state and national decision-makers to protect public health and the environment. Highlights include:

• In Utah, our BEC activities helped seal the fate of the proposed Legacy Highway and give birth to a win-win solution for environmentalists and the citizens of Utah: a low-impact parkway and purchase of sensitive areas in the Great Salt Lake Wetlands for conservation.
• Thanks in part to our organizing efforts in Florida, Wal-Mart withdrew its appeal to the St. Petersburg City Council, ending a bid to destroy important wetlands with a sprawl-inducing super center.

In addition, TSCF funded Sierra Club's Arctic Wilderness Campaign to ensure permanent protection for the coastal plain of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge while defending the Arctic Refuge, the Western Arctic, and the waters offshore America's Arctic ecosystem from administrative attacks.
