Pension Rights Center

We champion policies to protect and promote retirement security for American workers and their families.  We also provide expert assistance and information to individuals with retirement plan problems and questions.

How do you help people in my community?

Friends or family members with pension problems who live or work in one of the 27 states served by a pension counseling project can benefit from the legal and technical assistance we provide to the projects. If they live outside a pension counseling area, we can help them directly or through the National Pension Lawyers Network, a free lawyer referral service we created.

And anyone with a pension problem or question can visit our PensionHelp America web site (www.pensionhelp.org) for a referral to a local agency that can provide hands-on assistance.

Why do you need my support?

The Pension Rights Center is a small group that has taken on an enormous task. We can only succeed if we have the support of people who believe in our mission of protecting and promoting the income security of current and future retirees. Contributions will be treated with care, and used efficiently and effectively.

We are committed to seeking new ways of solving today’s problems that will ensure that all Americans will have the income they need when they retire. With your help, we will move forward to find solutions, by increasing direct assistance and improving public policy.

• We are building a nationwide pension assistance system so that everyone with a retirement plan question or problem will have the help they need to navigate the often bewildering maze of public and private retirement programs.

• We are promoting policies to increase pension coverage and strengthen current retirement plans, while also working with other organizations to develop a new universal, secure and adequate retirement system to supplement Social Security for the future. This ambitious new initiative is called Retirement USA (www.retirement-usa.org).

How can I be sure that you will use my money wisely and won't waste it?

• Our annual operating budget is under $2 million, yet we have a huge impact.
• We keep administrative and fundraising expenses to a minimum. According to our official Form 990 filed with the IRS, less than 5 percent of revenue was spent on management and fundraising in 2008.
• Our Board of Directors and Chief Financial Officer closely monitor our annual budget and income and expenses.
• We are audited every year by an outside accounting firm.

Can I Volunteer? How?

Retired federal employees with pension expertise provide invaluable input to both the Center’s pension assistance and public policy activities. To volunteer send a résumé to jobs@pensionrights.org
