How do you help people in my community?
PHILLIPS operates two special education day schools (located in Annandale, VA and Laurel, MD) that are available to any child living within the DC Metro area. Our community service programs assist children and families that reside in Northern Virginia.
Why do you need my support?
The needs of the children and families we serve exceed the fees paid for them, so it is important that PHILLIPS finds ways to supplement those fees. Your gift says that YOU CARE. ALL UNITED/WAY/CFC PLEDGES ARE DIRECTLY USED SOLELY TO FUND THE CHILDREN’S ACTIVITIES. YOUR GIFT WILL NOT DISAPPEAR INTO OUR ADMINISTRATIVE COSTS, OVERHEAD. The gifts are used for special items including but not limited to: gardening tools, sports equipment, games, musical instruments, manuals, workbooks, books for the library and field trips. PHILLIPS was founded in 1967 and we continue to help children with special needs and their families. We are different because PHILLIPS develops an individualized program for each child and their family, rather than fitting everyone into the same mold. It is a partnership approach that includes the child, their family and our experts.
How can I be sure that you will use my money wisely and won't waste it?
All funds received from the United Way/CFC campaign are placed into a special account for the sole purpose of funding many of the children’s activities. Staff is able to access the funds only after submitting an official request to the committee, which must approve the expense/project or activity. Once the committee has approved a request, the Executive Director of Programs must also approve the request. We value all gifts that we receive; therefore PHILLIPS pays special attention to how each and every dime is spent. Funds received will have a positive impact on all of the children and families that attend one of PHILLIPS schools or are in one of our community service programs.
Can I Volunteer? How?
Individuals interested in volunteering can join TeamPHILLIPS, which is a group of people that believe in our mission and create opportunities for others to learn more about PHILLIPS. TeamPHILLIPS members help with special events and may be called upon at a moment’s notice for support. If you are interested, please call Monise Quidley at (703) 941-8810 for information about the Annandale or Laurel campus.
