Breast Cancer Coalition

The Breast Cancer Coalition works to end breast cancer by increasing federal funding for research, making sure all women have access to care, and educating and empowering advocates.

Why do we exist?

In 1991, the National Breast Cancer Coalition and the National Breast Cancer Coalition Fund were founded by a group of breast cancer survivors to give a voice to women and men who have been affected by breast cancer.  This grassroots movement set out with the goals of increasing federal funding and ensuring access to quality health care for all breast cancer patients, including those with low incomes or without insurance.
NBCCF empowers and trains advocates to be effective in every aspect of the fight to end breast cancer. It gives women the tools to make decisions about their own health care and to work with legislative, scientific and clinical decisionmakers.  NBCC is the nation’s largest breast cancer advocacy group with hundreds of member organizations and tens of thousands of individual members. Together, NBCCF and NBCC form a unique organization with one principle mission: to end breast cancer.

What have you accomplished?

No other organization has done more to effectively challenge and transform the status quo and focus on ending breast cancer.  NBCC and its Fund have an impressive list of accomplishments.  NBCC/NBCCF have made breast cancer research more accountable to the public, created the unprecedented peer-review breast cancer research program that is funded through the Department of Defense, and worked with government and industry researchers through NBCCF’s Clinical Trials Initiative to find new ways to prevent, detect and treat breast cancer more rapidly and safely.  We have prepared more than 1,100 advocates through our science-training leadership course—Project LEAD® —to sit on review panels, boards and committees that impact breast cancer care, research, and public policy.  We have also collected women’s stories about the challenges they face in the health care system through our Personal Stories, Public Action campaign to help recently diagnosed women and educate policymakers on what must be improved.

How do you help people in my community? Why do you need my support?
How can I be sure that you will use my money wisely and won't waste it? Can I Volunteer? How?
