National Wildlife Federation

America's conservation organization, protecting wildlife for our children's future by restoring wildlife habitat, confronting global warming and connecting people with nature through education programs and publications, including Ranger Rick Magazine.

How do you help people in my community?

NWF has regional offices throughout the country that lead projects in endangered habitats, species protection, land stewardship, water quality, and wetlands protection.  NWF also works with affiliate organizations in 46 states to address community concerns.  Working with the Natural Resources Council of Maine, NWF fought successfully to have the habitat-destructive Edwards Dam removed from the Kennebec River.  NWF was also at work in Cleveland, transforming a three-acre lot at the Ronald McDonald House into a haven that sustains people and wildlife.

NWF’s Southeastern Natural Resources Center has focused its efforts on the restoration of the Florida Bay, home to more than 60 threatened and endangered species.  NWF is making efforts there to promote Backyard and Schoolyard Habitats and involve local citizens.  NWF is also supporting the InterTribal Bison Initiative, attempting to protect one of the last free-ranging herds of bison in Yellowstone National Park.

Why do you need my support?

Nature is threatened today by habitat destruction, air and water pollution, global climate change, and growing numbers of people.  Whole ecosystems will be destroyed unless we stand up and speak on their behalf.  Wherever we focus our efforts, it is NWF’s members and volunteers who give us the money and the muscle we need to get things done.  Our logo says it all: People and Nature... Our Future is in the Balance.  You can help level the playing field for wildlife and their habitats by supporting NWF’s programs.  Your gift enables NWF to work towards achieving that critical balance.

How can I be sure that you will use my money wisely and won't waste it?

NWF emphasizes common-sense conservation plans with lasting results.  By minimizing overhead costs (12% in 1997), 88% of what you give goes directly to our vital conservation activities.  You also support publications such as Ranger Rick, which educate and inspire people of all ages.

Can I Volunteer? How?

Volunteers serve in awide array of volunteer opportunities from working in their community as habitat volunteers to helping behind the scenes. Each person contributes directly to NWF's success. Volunteers have been at the heart of the National Wildlife Federation since its founding in 1936. Each and every volunteer contributes to NWF's success and its ability to protect wildlife and wild places.
