Help U.S. children and adults, including military families, reduce their risks of getting all types of cancer and assists them in choosing the safest and most effective treatments.
How do you help people in my community?
We hear from people every day who are grateful for the health and safety information they’ve gotten from us, and for our efforts on behalf of families. One father wrote: “thank you for bringing your expertise to bear as a voice of reason” and a mother told us, “Thank you, thank you, thank you! I believe you have saved my daughter's life!”
We provide understandable, research-based information on many important health and mental health issues affecting women and families for free through our web site and by responding to individual requests for information. If you are one of the millions of people who are confused by health information you hear or read about, please visit us at www.center4research.org.
NRC for Women & Families will work with your local or national organization to provide information that you can use to advocate for better programs and policies for women, children, and families.
We hold a lunch series in Washington, DC with expert speakers on controversial health issues, which attracts and educates women leaders in U.S. government, organizations, and large and small companies. These lunch discussions are free to attend and are open to the public. We will also help arrange a lunch presentation for your group or organization. Check our website for the date of our next lunch or contact us for more information at info@center4research.org. We also help train young people who are concerned about the health and safety of women, children, and families, and want to learn how to help others in their community, and improve people’s lives everyday.
Why do you need my support?
Every gift counts. NRC for Women & Families depends completely on individual donations for all its newest programs and to enable us to inform the public of breaking news on health issues. With the help of these donations, NRC has clearly distinguished itself with policy makers, journalists, and women and men across the country, as “a voice you can trust that provides information you can use.” We provide our services for free to millions of people across the country. NRC for Women & Families does not accept funding or support from companies that make the products that we analyze. That way, you can count on us to be unbiased – we’re not selling you anything. That is why we rely on individuals for financial support. And, that is why your support, no matter what the size of your gift, is so important to us.
How can I be sure that you will use my money wisely and won't waste it?
NRC does not spend money on fancy fundraising events, outrageous salaries, or fancy offices. We keep our overhead costs low -- below 10%. Less than 4% of our operating budget is spent on fundraising. NRC is audited annually by independent auditors who attest to the financial stability of the organization. A copy of this audit can be obtained from our offices at 1701 K Street, NW, Suite #700, Washington, DC 20006.
NRC’s impressive Board of Directors and National Advisory Board ensure our effectiveness and financial stability. Our Board of Directors provide free financial, legal, marketing, communications, and strategy guidance as well as health and social policy expertise. Members of our national Advisory Board, including Judy Woodruff from CNN, directors of Women’s Research Centers, pediatric researchers, and nationally-respected policymakers, help us improve our projects and programs.
Can I Volunteer? How?
NRC welcomes volunteers to assist us with our work. We need volunteers to assist with data entry, graphic design and layout work, our newsletter, and small fundraising events. We have an internship program for students and new graduates who want to learn how to make a difference for women and families. We also welcome volunteers with expertise in the health and social issues that we work on, as well as volunteers with fundraising or public relations skills. Please contact us at info@center4research.org to learn more about volunteer opportunities.
