N Street Village

N Street Village provides a community of empowerment and recovery for D.C.'s homeless and low-income women. Services include a day center, housing, mental and physical health care, and job training.

How do you help people in my community?

Located in the Logan Circle neighborhood of northwest D.C., N Street Village plays a critical and indispensable in the social safety net for vulnerable women in our city. At the time of the 2011 annual homeless enumeration, we were providing services to 60% of the adult single homeless women in the District of Columbia.  Our programs improve the lives of our neighbors in need and they also have been recognized for improving our neighborhood by the Logan Circle Community Association.

Why do you need my support?

N Street Village raises over 80% of its funds from private sources, including individuals like you. Your donation will make a significant difference in the lives of the women we serve. For example, a $25 donation can provide 20 hot lunches for women in our drop-in center, and a gift of $100 will provide an entire week’s worth of services for a woman living in our night shelter. Your donation doesn’t just provide help for the emergency needs of homeless women, it also supports programs that empower women to break the cycle of homelessness and poverty.

How can I be sure that you will use my money wisely and won't waste it?

N Street Village provides an impressive and comprehensive array of services for nearly 900 women each year on a relatively small annual budget of roughly $3 million. We deploy volunteers to provide quality services and reduce expenses, and we collaborate with other local providers to reduce unnecessary and costly duplication of services. We manage all of our own assets, including our 150,000 square foot facility that houses all of our supportive services, program housing, and affordable housing. We also invest in management and evaluation because we believe that successful client outcomes are the direct result of strong leadership, comprehensive data analysis, and a commitment to continuous quality improvement.

Can I Volunteer? How?

Yes! N Street Village hosts over 300 volunteers annually who donate over 12,000 hours of service to our community. We offer a variety of individual and group volunteer opportunities. For example, volunteers work as learning lab monitors and tutors, prepare and serve lunches and dinners, pick up donations, help maintain our courtyard garden, assist on overnight shifts in our shelter, help with fundraising and event planning, and offer their professional health services to women in our Wellness Center. More information about our volunteer program and a link to sign up can be found on our website (http://www.nstreetvillage.org/volunteer/).
