The Mautner Project is unique in that it is the national lesbian health organization working to improve the health and well-being of all women who partner with women (WPW) and their families.
The Mautner Project meets the needs of lesbians/WPW with cancer have for support and care, and the needs of the lesbian/WPW community in terms of education about health and health care and we meet the health needs of lesbians/WPW by advocating for their health through research, advocacy and activism and we meet the need for WPW to receive quality healthcare from providers by educating providers about how to better serve their WPW clients.
You should care because lesbians/WPW need to be included in healthcare agendas, and the health needs of lesbians/WPW must be known, acknowledged and provided for.
What have you accomplished?
The Mautner Project has served hundreds of lesbians with cancer and their families and educated hundreds of providers across the U.S. about how to better serve their WPW clients and created coalitions between our organization and many others ensure that lesbian health issues are on the agenda.
The Mautner Project has helped clients navigate the confusing and sometimes hostile medical establishment by assigning a client service coordinator to them, who assists them in all of their care; meeting with doctors, finding providers, understanding diagnoses and treatment options. Volunteers conduct home visits and do for clients what they may be unable to do for themselves, or their families may be unable to do and keep their jobs – such as running errands, providing companionship, transportation to doctor visits, whatever the clients needs are, we do our best to meet them.
