Provides high-risk young adults, ages 18-28, with the job training and education needed to transform their lives, while making a difference in local communities and parklands.
How do you help people in my community?
Since its inception, Marin Conservation Corps has improved the lives of more than 5,000 youth in Marin County while performing nearly three million hours of work on 150,000 acres of public lands. Through community service and civic engagement, corpsmembers address critical needs in the community working with local land management agencies, municipalities, public schools and colleges, neighborhood associations and others. Each year corpsmembers play an important role in reducing fire and flood hazards, constructing and maintaining trails, restoring riparian and wildlife habitat, collecting recyclable materials and providing environmental education to school children.
As we continue to strategically meet the needs of Marin County youth and communities, we are in the process of expanding our youth education, job training, and community services to Sonoma County where there is a tremendous need for a local conservation corps. As part of the expansion, MCC is officially changing its name to Conservation Corps North Bay and launching a new logo in fall 2008.
Why do you need my support?
Marin Conservation Corps relies on community support to ensure that young people will receive the life-changing education and job training opportunities needed to permanently break the cycle of poverty and reach their full potential in life. “I am writing to thank you for your support of MCC and corpsmembers like myself. I am a Natural Resources crew member. I have been at MCC for 15 months. In that time I studied classes in English and earned certificates for Sawyers 1, 2 and 3. In my crew we do fire prevention. I have also been promoted to Assistant Crew Leader. I hope to get a job in landscaping. Your support has helped me develop my English skills so that I can have a better future.” -- Corpsmember Pedro Perez Chom
How can I be sure that you will use my money wisely and won't waste it?
Marin Conservation Corps is proud of the way it manages the generous contributions it receives from individuals, corporations, and foundations. In addition to its annual audit, MCC undergoes four rigorous certification processes to ensure the continued high quality of its programs, including the Excellence in Corps Operations peer review, California Conservation Corps certification, AmeriCorps Program Desk Review, and Western Association of Schools and Colleges accreditation for its John Muir Charter School.
Our organization has a highly qualified and dedicated team of 38 staff members (31 full-time and 7 part-time) and 14 board members led by long-time Executive Director Marilee Eckert. Ms. Eckert has served as MCC’s Executive Director since 1992. Under her leadership, the organization has grown from a $1.2 million to a $5.95 million organization, and successfully launched a number of its core programs. The management team meets on a regular basis to implement the organizational goals outlined in MCC’s strategic plan.
