League of Conservation Voters Education Fund

To secure our planet's future, our mission is to strengthen the capacity of the environmental movement, to mobilize citizens as informed voters and to advocate for sound environmental policies.

Why do we exist?

Strong environmental laws are our best guarantee of clean air, clean water, and safe energy. We bring innovative technology and research to local groups across America so they can educate policymakers and encourage people to vote.

In 1985, the League of Conservation Voters Education Fund was incorporated to conduct research and training programs that increase the knowledge and skills of environmental leaders, advocates, and elected officials. In 1995, when the U.S. Congress threatened to gut federal environmental laws and relegate more environmental policy and enforcement authority to the states, the LCV Education Fund launched its grassroots program to strengthen and energize the environmental movement’s base of citizen support. We are now working in 29 states, with 37 staff in thirteen field offices, including the national office in Washington, DC. Our field offices include: Anchorage, AK; Ann Arbor, MI; St. Paul, MN; Cleveland, OH; Seattle, WA; Boston, MA; Atlanta, GA; Tallahassee, FL; Chapel Hill, NC; Boulder, CO; Austin, TX; and Richmond, VA. We are affiliated with the national League of Conservation Voters.

What have you accomplished?

LCV Education Fund worked with national and state coalitions this summer to quickly generate almost 150,000 citizen comments – via postcard, fax, email, and through testimony at public hearings – against the Environmental Protection Agency’s proposed rollback of Clean Air Act regulations. We continue to seek opportunities to prove the grassroots power of the environmental movement so that decision makers and the media understand that Americans demand strong and effective environmental protections.
