Why do we exist?
Since first opening 35 years ago, the L.A. Gay & Lesbian Center has grown into a community-based service center like no other in addressing the needs of the gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender (GLBT) community. The Center offers a host of free or low-cost services including: health and mental health care services; HIV/AIDS and STD testing, treatment and prevention programs; anti-violence and domestic violence programs; legal aid and civil rights advocacy; addiction/recovery services; social and cultural arts programs, as well as unique services for immigrants, families, youth, and seniors.
What have you accomplished?
In 1974, the L.A. Gay & Lesbian Center became the first organization in the country with the word "gay" in its name to be "awarded" non-profit status by the federal government. Today, the Center welcomes nearly 250,000 client visits and serves over 50,000 people each year from all walks of life. The services of the L.A. Gay & Lesbian Center are available to anyone regardless of gender identity or sexual orientation and are offered free or at low-cost to clients.
