Offers local girls a variety of programs including after-school troops, spring and summer day camps, summer resident camps and special events that help them grow to their full potential.
Why do we exist?
The Girl Scout Council of the Nation's Capital (GSCNC) operates under a charter from the Girl Scouts of the USA. We are directly responsible for providing Girl Scout program to girls throughout the Washington metropolitan region. GSCNC is the largest council in the country, serving over 69,000 girl and adult members.
The Girl Scouts is the world's preeminent organization dedicated solely to girls -- all girls -- where in an accepting and nurturing environment, girls build character and skills for success in the real world. In partnership with committed adults, girls develop qualities that will serve them all their lives -- like strong values, social conscience, and conviction about their own potential and self-worth. In the Girl Scouts, they discover fun, friendship and the power of girls together.
What have you accomplished?
Programs like Girl Scouting are crucial to the community. By providing activities that develop girls' self-esteem, increase their skills in interpersonal relationships, and build values, Girl Scouting gives direction for each girl throughout her life. Most program activities are carried out within a troop setting, which allows girls to develop their fullest potential in an atmosphere of trust and cooperation. Under the guidance of trained volunteer leaders, troops create a much-needed safe and supervised space where girls can grow and learn.
