Cancer Treatment Research Foundation/ Gateway for Cancer Research

99¢ of every dollar donated to Gateway for Cancer Research funds patient-centered clinical studies that impact those battling cancer, offering today’s hope and tomorrow’s cure.

Why do we exist?

Cancer Treatment Research Foundation (CTRF) was founded on the conviction that patients need and deserve the best possible treatments the world has to offer. It is with this in mind that we strive to fund the most innovative research known to man. Our goal is to shorten the distance between those dedicated to treating and curing cancer and patients who are fighting for their lives—to move the best research from the laboratory to the bedside.

The vision is cancer patients living longer, more fulfilling and healthier lives while making real progress in finding cures. Our very impressive scientific advisory board reviews all grant proposals according to our mission.

There are several factors separating CTRF from other cancer organizations:

  • 99 cents of every dollar donated to CTRF goes directly to cancer research programs, thanks to the generous underwriting of daily operation expenses by corporate underwriting. This ratio is unparalleled in any non-for-profit setting.

  • CTRF research encompasses the most innovative applications of conventional therapies (chemotherapy, radiation and surgery) and the best in science-based complementary medicine (nutrition, biofeedback, psychoneuro-immunology, spiritual, etc.)

  • CTRF supports clinically based studies that have already passed the test tube state and are ready to make a significant impact on cancer patients. In addition, CTRF’s mission does not permit funding research studies on laboratory animals.

  • CTRF actively monitors the progress of each grant recipient, then provides ongoing funding only upon demonstration of fiscal responsibility and intended results. Most importantly, it measures real progress in the study through patient impact.

What have you accomplished?

Since awarding its first grant in 1994, CTRF has now funded 40 clinical research projects worldwide. CTRF has supported some of the most gifted researchers in conventional, integrative, and complementary medicine for almost every tumor type. As one example of our funded research, Dr. Ven Murthy from Laval University in Quebec is looking at the effect of antioxidant vitamins on patients with prostate cancer. It has been estimated that 40 percent of all human cancers are attributed to dietary factors in the western countries. Dr. Murthy hopes to find the optimal antioxidant mixture to assist the natural defenses of the body in overcoming prostate cancer. This study is also double blind and placebo controlled to provide the best, biased-free results.
