A Christian relief and development organization committed to helping people in developing countries overcome hunger and poverty through biblically-based development and relief programs.
Why do we exist?
Food for the Hungry exists to end physical and spiritual hungers worldwide. We do this by working with and mobilizing leaders, churches and families, addressing long-term problems with sustainable solutions. Our vision is motivated by God’s love for humanity, and His mandate specifically to care for the poor and disadvantaged. Food for the Hungry answers God’s call to help the poorest of the poor around the world in response to Micah 6:8…”to do justice, love mercy, and walk humbly with Him.” This takes us to the hard places, addressing physical and spiritual hungers, providing education, food, health, water, agriculture, HIV/AIDS care and prevention, and spiritual and church development. Food for the Hungry brings hope to the poor in over 45 countries around the world.
What have you accomplished?
Food for the Hungry walks alongside the poor to bring about change one life at a time, transforming individuals, families and communities by the power and grace of God. In developing countries around the world, thousands of children receive hope for the future through our child sponsorship program. Community leaders are trained to solve problems. Churches are mobilized to reach out in their communities. Families are equipped to meet their own needs.
Sen Pan lives in a poor, struggling community in Cambodia, and his struggles are much like many of the people Food for the Hungry works with. Before Food for the Hungry entered the community, he and other farmers struggled physically and spiritually, caught in a vicious cycle of lackluster agricultural production, poor family relationships and a fatalistic mindset. Through Food for the Hungry’s “Model Farmers” program, Sen Pan received training in advanced agricultural techniques, including rice and vegetable production, agriculture diversification, pest management and animal healthcare. In addition, Sen Pan attended leadership training and workshops on biblical principles for agricultural development. Now, Sen Pan is a leader in his community, training other farmers on the techniques that have transformed him and his family. Eternal seeds were also planted. Sen Pan and his family are now part of a church that is steadily penetrating the hard walls of hopelessness in his community. Sen Pan is an example of thousands of lives that Food for the Hungry, through the power and grace of God, walks alongside to help end physical and spiritual hungers. When leaders, churches and families are equipped to address the challenges within their own communities, sustainable change occurs and each member moves toward reaching their God-given potential.
