Since 1981 our community-based street tree plantings have literally transformed San Francisco's cityscape. We've planted 42,000 trees in 27 years and we can plant thousands more with your support.
How do you help people in my community?
We can both help you and your neighbors to organize a community tree planting and we can care for these new trees or the trees you've already got.
We also conduct tree pruning workshops and "tree tours" of local neighborhoods and parks, identifying rare and interesting trees in the community.
If you have teens eligible for our Youth and Education Program, we will pay them to learn tree care and other job skills.
Why do you need my support?
Like every nonprofit, we rely on individuals for support. We receive some money from the city and some from foundations, but this revenue gets harder to come by every year. The majority of our support comes from individuals like you.
With your support, we will continue to green San Francisco -- only 43% of available street tree space in San Francisco has been planted! We envision at least a doubling of San Francisco's urban forest, with all the benefits that come with it. There is no other civic non-profit tree planting organization in the city. Without us, San Francisco's urban forest would decline and disappear.
How can I be sure that you will use my money wisely and won't waste it?
We keep our overhead very low. In fact, much of the work of our neighborhood plantings are done by the over 100 active volunteers we consider part of our family.
We are audited annually and we always pass with flying colors -- we manage our finances very well. Annual and strategic planning, as well as the diligent oversite of our board of directors, ensures that we stay focused on our goals which we accomplish with great effectiveness and efficiency.
Can I Volunteer? How?
Yes indeed! You can volunteer from our website, www.fuf.net, or you can call our office at (415) 561-6890.
