For the past 35 years, FARM has been the leading advocate of meat-free eating to prevent animal cruelty, preserve our natural environment and enhance public health.
How do you help people in my community?
FARM provides free display and educational materials to more than 1,000 communities for our annual events like the Great American Meatout (March), Vegan Earth Day (April), World Farm Animals Day (October), and Gentle Thanksgiving (November). Chances are good that your community will have a free public meal, feed-in for the homeless, festival, video screening, lecture, or other event made possible by FARM at least once a year.
FARM also provides free recipes, health news, and inspiration directly to the inboxes of people in every state through our Meatout Mondays campaign. 26,000 people now receive weekly information to help them lead healthier, happier lives courtesy of FARM.
FARM’s public education campaigns have made a broad impact on communities all across the country. The increased availability of healthy meat-free options at your sports arena, in your grocery store, and at your favorite restaurants came about thanks to the tireless work of FARM and other compassionate activists.
In addition, FARM has a global impact. Through small grants to grassroots organizations promoting respect for animals and plant-based eating in the developing world, we are getting the word out in more than 30 countries. We are working with volunteers in your community, we are global, and we are consistently expanding our program services.
Why do you need my support?
FARM conducts a dozen national campaigns on a shoestring budget of $500,000/year, and we are entirely funded by individual contributions from caring people just like you. Simply put, without individual donors like you, none of our good work would be possible.
Any size gift can make a difference. For example, $300 will cover printing a large billboard advocating compassion for animals and placement in donated space on a major highway. $20 will provide a volunteer with 500 handouts for distribution. Even just a few dollars will help print more literature and educate the public about animal abuse.
FARM’s vision is working with you to build a world where animals are no longer brutalized and exploited. We need everyone’s support to change attitudes about animals who are too often seen simply as “food.” FARM often points out the 98% of abused animals are farmed animals. If you agree that there is no excuse for animal abuse, please join our efforts.
How can I be sure that you will use my money wisely and won't waste it?
First, FARM’s overhead is absolutely rock-bottom low, consistently well under 4%. This means that we don’t spend lots of your money on things like office space or fundraising. We work with vendors and are able to get many necessary items donated. In fact, we even obtain donated advertising space so we can spread the animal rights message widely for just a minimal amount of cash.
Our budget ensures that every possible penny goes to actual programs rather than administrative expenses. FARM staff volunteer all or part of their time in the office to ensure that more of every dollar goes toward helping animals. Our IRS Form 990 is available upon request.
FARM’s financial operations are audited annually in compliance with the strict standards of the Combined Federal Campaign and United Way. An independent audit ensures transparency and shows that we are committed to managing your money wisely. We review the effectiveness of our outreach and are constantly striving toward even greater efficiency and giving donors the greatest impact per dollar donated.
Can I Volunteer? How?
Yes! FARM has a very small paid staff, so we rely heavily on volunteers. If you live in the Washington, DC area, we are always in need of office volunteers to stuff letters, mail event packs, and even research vegan bands.
FARM also relies on volunteer event coordinators in our network of compassionate activists to put on events for the Great American Meatout on March 20 and World Farm Animals Day on October 2. Volunteer event coordinators get free materials and support from our national office, and we promote them in our online events registry. Another easy way to volunteer for FARM is collecting email sign-ups for our Action Highlights and Meatout Mondays recipe list. It’s a great way to engage your community in getting more information about animal activism, nutrition, and easy ways to help the environment one meal at a time.
Please email info@farmusa.org or call 888-ASK-FARM if you have more specific questions about volunteer opportunities. We can tailor the type of volunteer work specifically to your interests, availability, and skills. We look forward to hearing from you!
