We empower low-income working families to buy affordable, volunteer-build Habitat homes, revitalizing their neighborhoods and strengthening their futures. Help us complete our current 53-home development.
How do you help people in my community?
DC Habitat for Humanity builds better futures for District families--one home at a time. By strengthening families, we are strengthening neighborhoods, communities, and the greater DC area in general. We also provide a unique opportunity for volunteers to work with low-income families as they build the home of their dreams.
Why do you need my support?
DC Habitat needs a wide range of community support and gifts of all sizes large and small in order to fulfill its mission to eliminate substandard housing. We are proud to help families achieve their goal of homeownership. No other organization offers volunteers so many ways to help change lives through homebuilding.
How can I be sure that you will use my money wisely and won't waste it?
DC Habitat for Humanity is committed to be responsive to our dedicated donors. We keep our donors apprised of activities and our progress throughout the year through the newsletter and information posted on our website. We also include financial information in our special annual report edition of the newsletter.
Can I Volunteer? How?
We welcome all volunteers! Our most visible volunteers are our individual and group construction volunteers. In addition, we estimate for every hour of construction, nine hours of committee and office volunteer work is needed. If you would like to get involved with Habitat on a committee or by working with our prospective and current families, we welcome you.
Your first step for all volunteer opportunities is to contact DC Habitat’s volunteer coordinator Diane Faires at 202-610-2355 ext 16 or by emailing her at diane.faires@dchabitat.org..
