Comprehensive health care for sick, homeless men and women and assistance in addressing critical issues to break the cycle of homelessness: 24-hour medical care, food services, addictions treatment and housing placement.
How do you help people in my community?
Patients are referred to Christ House from local hospital emergency rooms, clinics, shelters, and medical outreach projects. Our staff physicians, in collaboration with Unity Health Care’s medical outreach van, provide care to many sick, homeless persons living on the street (e.g. In parks, under bridges, and on heating grates).
Why do you need my support?
Sixty percent of our funding comes from individuals, churches, businesses, associations and community organizations who contribute through our annual giving program and the United Way and Combined Federal Campaigns (#8385). In addition, proposals are submitted to local and national foundations to support health care, social services, food services, and other program needs at Christ House. All gifts from individuals and other sources make a difference in the lives of the people we serve.
It cost $129 to provide care for one patient for one full day at Christ House. This is nominal compared to the cost of care provided by hospitals and nursing homes. Christ House will continue to make a difference in the future as the cost of health care increases.
Sick, homeless persons who are in need of 24-hour medical care in a residential setting can only find it at Christ House. Our multi-faceted approach fosters self-reliance because each patient learns the importance of bring part of a community. Our goal is that patients will leave Christ House with a new sense of hope and dignity, be able to work, and live independently in the community.
How can I be sure that you will use my money wisely and won't waste it?
Christ House’s operating expenses are very cost effective. Our dedicated staff work at lower than average wages. Our administrative cost is 11% of our total budget. In addition, the service provided by over 250 volunteers annually allows Christ House to save in labor costs.
