The Inn provides "A Place Like Home" in a healing environment for seriously ill children and families to stay together while participating in groundbreaking medical treatment at NIH.
How do you help people in my community?
The Children’s Inn has been home to seriously ill children and their families from all 50 states and 74 different countries. Since our services have touched the lives of families and children from all across the United States and many countries—from large cities to small towns, and even rural villages—it is likely that someone from your community or surrounding area has stayed or will have to stay at The Inn.
Why do you need my support?
While The Children’s Inn is located on the campus of the National Institutes of Health, it is a private non-profit entity that has to raise funds to cover all operating costs. We do not charge families to stay at The Inn, no matter how long the visit, so donations—no matter how large or small—are vital to keeping our doors open. It is because of the generosity of our donors that we are able to continue providing services such as arts and crafts, bingo, Camp INNcredible, teen night, Giggles Children’s Theater, family night, EducateINN and many other activities that help to keep our residents’ minds off of the real reason that have to be here.
How can I be sure that you will use my money wisely and won't waste it?
The Children’s Inn at NIH has a history of heavy congressional spouse involvement on our Board of Directors, providing guidance and ensuring accountability. The Inn also has over 200 volunteers from the community to help in virtually every operational aspect, enabling us to keep our staff overhead costs low. The Children’s Inn received an unqualified opinion on our audit for fiscal year 2008— the best opinion an entity can receive.
