How do you help people in my community?
The Children’s Clinic provides on-site primary health care services that include comprehensive and continuous care, as well as primary care and preventive health care to children and their families, including family planning services. TCC also provides immunizations against vaccine-preventable diseases, 24-hour telephone accessibility to physicians and emergency services, well-child services, office lab tests and pharmaceutical services, as appropriate. TCC provides access to health education and promotion; chronic disease management for obesity, depression, asthma and diabetes; and on-site social workers to provide mental health services and referrals, provide case management services, assist patients in gaining financial support for health and social services. Screening and linkage is also provided for families needing additional resources such as food, shelter, mental health services, domestic violence counseling and other psychosocial services.
Why do you need my support?
The number of uninsured has grown over the last few years and reimbursement for services has stayed the same, while costs of services have increased. Although we access all county, state and federal funding streams for our patient care still the entire cost of a visit is not covered. The primary goal of this project is to improve the health and well-being of the low income, uninsured and underinsured children in our communities by providing access to quality, affordable, culturally sensitive and linguistically appropriate health care in their neighborhood. The Children’s Clinic, Serving Children and Their Families’ mission is “to partner with parents and the community to provide quality health care services and health education and promotion to needy children and families”. TCC provided almost 55,000 patient visits to almost 17,000 children and adults in the last 12 months.
TCC is a unique leader in the Long Beach community that seeks to improve the health and well-being of children and families and reduce health disparities through a comprehensive approach to health care that includes responding to community identified needs in a culturally sensitive and linguistically appropriate manner and developing partnerships with many different organizations locally, state-wide and nationally. TCC is known as a leader in providing care for the underserved and has been responsive to identified health care needs throughout the years by growing, expanding and creating programs based on those needs. TCC is known as a unique leader in the Southern California community, providing care for the underserved of all ages and improving the health and well-being while addressing disparities in health by offering them a true “medical home”.
How can I be sure that you will use my money wisely and won't waste it?
The primary goal of The Children’s Clinic is to improve the health and well-being of the low income, uninsured and underinsured children and families in our community and all money and donations received goes toward the care of our patients. Governance by and for the community served is an essential and distinguishing element of The Children’s Clinic. The current governing Board consists of 11 members, 6 of whom are consumers of Clinic services residing in or adjacent to zip codes of our Clinic sites. The Board is legally responsible for ensuring that The Children’s Clinic is operating in accordance with federal, state and local laws and regulations and is financially viable. As the bylaws state, daily management of the Clinic is the responsibility of management staff under the direction of the CEO. TCC has instituted different committees to ensure that the Clinic is run smoothly and that the needs of our patients, staff and community are met. For example, TCC’s Finance Committee meets on the first Wednesday of every month to review financial documents and report any problems or changes with the budget. These meetings also serve as brainstorming sessions as to how to improve services and patient numbers, assure fiscally responsible services and improve recruitment and retention of staff, etc.
