Through a network of 700 nonprofit partners, the CAFB distributed 30 million pounds of food last year, nearly 15 million pounds of fresh produce. With just $1, the CAFB can provide three meals.
How do you help people in my community?
The Capital Area Food Bank has an Education Department which conducts several food education programs throughout the community. These programs range from spreading hunger awareness to providing cooking and life skills classes for low-income individuals.
Through our farm project and fresh produce initiative, the Capital Area Food Bank provides 6 million pounds of fresh fruits and vegetables to hunger relief organizations and low-income families each year.
All Capital Area Food Bank food distribution and education programs are provided to the entire metropolitan area, including D.C.; Montgomery and Prince George’s Counties in Maryland; and Alexandria, Arlington, Falls Church, Fairfax County, Manassas and Prince William County in Virginia.
Why do you need my support?
90 percent of our income comes from private donations, including: individuals, corporations, foundations and special events. Your donation will directly impact the lives of the hungry in our region.
How can I be sure that you will use my money wisely and won't waste it?
92 percent of every dollar donated to the Capital Area Food Bank goes directly toward food and education programs. Only 8 percent goes to administrative and fundraising costs. The Capital Area Food Bank is constantly working to improve operations to most efficiently serve our member agencies and the individuals they assist. An audited financial statement is available on our web site.
