Calvary Women's Services

Every five days a woman who was homeless moves from Calvary into her own home. Your support provides the safe home, education and support that make it possible.

How do you help people in my community?

Calvary Women's Services is a local organization, working with women in Washington, DC.  We are strongly connected to this community, as we rely on local businesses, religious groups, civic organizations and, of course, individuals for the volunteer and financial support that make our services possible.

Beyond geographic definitions, each year we assist women from a variety of communities, women who face a variety of challenges.  Our clients may struggle with mental illness, addictions, chronic health problems, histories of abuse and trauma, lack of education, and underemployment.  They come from many different socio-economic, ethnic, and religious backgrounds.  However you create communities, Calvary probably assists women from yours

Why do you need my support?

Your gifts do make a significant difference in the lives of the women at Calvary.  Each year the contributions of individuals like you to provide over 25% of our budget.

Your gifts make possible the safe housing and support services that empower women to move out of homelessness. To provide a woman one night’s housing, meals, and array of support services, costs only $60.

How can I be sure that you will use my money wisely and won't waste it?

Calvary Women's Services has been a part of the Washington, DC community for over 20 years.  During that time we have consistently used strategic planning, annual financial audits, and program evaluations to ensure the quality of our programs.  In 2003 this work was recognized by the Washington Council of Agencies, who named Calvary a finalist for The Washington Post Award for Excellence in Non-Profit Management.

In addition, Calvary has an active and involved Board of Directors, who oversee our financial and programmatic activities.

The numbers speak for themselves.  The overhead costs for the organization – including management and fundraising – total only 16% of our annual budget.  This is possible in part because of our strong volunteer program.  In fiscal year 2003 volunteer services were valued at over $100,000.

Can I Volunteer? How?
