Bright Beginnings is a child and family development center that provides free childcare, education, therapeutic and family services to homeless families in the District.

How do you help people in my community?

Bright Beginnings serves homeless families in need right here in Washington, DC. Without reliable childcare, parents have no way of improving their housing status. By providing care from 7:00 a.m. to 11:30 p.m., Bright Beginnings allows parents to find employment, continue to work, go back to school, and participate in job training programs bother during the day and evening.

Why do you need my support?

Your gift, regardless of the amount, will make a difference in the lives of homeless children and their families. Your donation to Bright Beginnings can provide a homeless child with their first book, a trip to the zoo, their first tricycle ride, warm nutritious breakfast, and the loving care every child deserves.

As a nonprofit organization, we are constantly searching out new sources of funding and individual support.  The financial contributions of individuals, foundations, government agencies and corporations make it possible for us to carry out our programs.  Every donation we receive has the potential to make a significant difference in the life of homeless children and families.   

Our need for funding is especially pressing given our plan to expand our services to a second center, doubling the number of children and families we currently serve.

How can I be sure that you will use my money wisely and won't waste it?

Bright Beginnings serves as many as 128 children each day.  No fees are ever charged to the families.

Our administration overhead is low (13%).  87 cents of every dollar you donate goes directly to program services.

Each year, Bright Beginnings continues to grow, stretching each dollar further to serve more children and provide more services to our families.

Can I Volunteer? How?

Bright Beginnings offers multiple volunteer opportunities both working in the classrooms directly with our children and outside the center organizing donation drives for our program. Bright Beginnings will work with you to best use the talents you have to offer and make the greatest impact on the work we do with the homeless community.
