National Capital Area Council, Boy Scouts of America - Citizenship, leadership and character development, and physical fitness to youth ages 6-20. Serving the greater Washington, DC metro area since 1910.
Why do we exist?
We exist to provide values driven programs to young people in an effort to improve local communities. Our programs are unique because they cover all age brackets, are available in-school and after-school, promote a belief in God, involve parental support, encourage academic and athletic activities and center on the outdoors for the most part. We are meeting the social development needs of young people while strengthening their character development as they learn from positive role models.
What have you accomplished?
In 2002, our programs served 120,000 young people. Our food drive collected nearly 1 million pounds of food. 982 young men earned the rank of Eagle Scout last year. 36 Scouts and Scout Leaders were awarded heroism awards for helping to save others from harm. Thousands of Scouts performed hundreds of thousands of hours of service projects throughout Washington, D.C. and the 16 surrounding counties in Maryland and Virginia. Our programs continue to flourish and serve youth of all socio-economic backgrounds.
