B'nai B'rith International

B'nai B'rith International is the oldest Jewish humanitarian, human rights and advocacy organization.  For 165 years, B'nai Brith has been meeting the unmet needs in your community and your world.

How do you help people in my community?

Among its endeavors, B’nai B’rith is the largest national Jewish sponsor of federally subsided housing for the elderly in the United States. For almost four decades, B’nai B’rith, through its Senior Housing Committee, has been involved in a cooperative partnership with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to make available rental apartments for senior citizens on a limited or fixed income. B’nai B’rith senior housing is open to all qualified individuals as defined by HUD, without regard to race, color, religion, sex, handicap, or national origin.

BBI leads a plethora of additional community initiatives, including Project HOPE (Help Our People Everywhere), which concentrates on collecting and distributing food packages to poor and elderly Jews during Passover. The BBI-funded Solo Seder Kits provide an opportunity for soldiers overseas to observe the High Holiday while away from the homes and families. The B’nai B’rith Center for Community Action and the Center for Jewish Identity work together to reach out to those hurt by intolerance and indifference.

Why do you need my support?

B’nai B’rith is employed in a wide variety of humanitarian efforts spanning the globe, including efforts in human rights, public policy, senior advocacy and housing, battling anti-Semitism and supporting tolerance, and helping people rebuild their lives after catastrophes. With such a vast universe of causes, BBI depends on support from individuals and corporations providing varying levels of contributions. Donations of any size help further the organization’s work, as many small contributions from our broad based pool of supporters combine to equal a large donation.

BBI separates itself from other humanitarian organizations through the way we touch the lives of others. After Hurricane Katrina struck New Orleans, B’nai B’rith was on the ground helping to assist with the long-term needs of the communities, supporting the reemerging infrastructure and helping to build a house.

BBI also operates the largest network of housing in the Jewish community, providing more than 6,500 senior men and women with safe, comfortable housing without fear they will have to choose between rent and food. B’nai B’rith makes a difference in the daily lives of countless people around the world.

How can I be sure that you will use my money wisely and won't waste it?

B’nai B’rith has been an active part of your community since 1843, serving as a trusted advocate and meeting your unmet needs. With that history comes a long heritage of trust forged between the community and the organization. Last year, 72 cents of every dollar generated by B’nai B’rith went towards community involvement, public advocacy, senior housing and services, humanitarian assistance, or Jewish continuity

Can I Volunteer? How?

Initiatives like Project HOPE, the Holocaust remembrance program “Unto Every Person There Is a Name,” and many of the young leadership programs require volunteers who are willing to support the causes.
