Cares for the hungry and homeless of the world by providing food, medicine, encouragement and hope. Defends the oppressed and persecuted by promoting human rights and religious freedom.
Why do we exist?
The Baptist World Alliance (BWA) unites 218 Baptist conventions, associations, and unions made up of more than 41 million baptized believers in a total community of 110 million, to share resources, prayer, and encouragement. The BWA works worldwide to defend human rights and religious freedom, provide aid to the hungry, the refugee, to victims of natural and man-made disasters and war and to bring Christian hope and fellowship to Baptists more than 200 countries. The work of the Alliance is not limited to those who are part of the Baptist family. We are concerned for all the people in the world since they are created in the image of God.
The BWA network connects and unites Baptists of all languages, cultures and traditions. By working with our international partners we create a large pool of indigenous human, material and spiritual resources that help to alleviate the suffering of the world and create sustainable development. The Baptist World Alliance plays such a unique role in our world that it has been said if the BWA didn’t exist we would have to create it!
What have you accomplished?
The Baptist World Alliance responds immediately whenever disaster strikes the world. Often, we are helping those who will never get the attention of larger organizations. We are providing aid for Japanese Baptists to help their neighbors after the earthquake and tsunami. We continue to provide funds in Haiti for the continued needs for healthcare and rebuilding. We continue to support hunger programs, HIV/AIDS education and medicines, and agriculture and safe water programs in many areas of the world. Our NGO seat before the United Nations allows us to speak out for religious freedom and human rights for everyone, and especially where people are persecuted for their faith.
