American Eagle Foundation

Dedicated to saving and protecting the USA's national symbol, the threatened Bald Eagle, through supporting and conducting eagle and environmental care, recovery, monitoring and public education programs nationwide.

How do you help people in my community?

Through its programs, the Foundation acts to save and protect the Bald Eagle for all Americans.  It would be a tragedy if our National Symbol perished because of our own neglect, so the Foundation teaches understanding and respect for eagles in their natural habitat, and involves local people in saving the eagles' environment through programs such as "Adopt An Eagle" and "Eagle Nest Watch".  Schools, classes, youth groups, civic organizations and companies can participate directly in these and other Foundation programs. The NFPAE's birds of prey education program travels to many states and its work has been the subject of numerous national TV programs and reports.

Why do you need my support?

Every eagle or other bird of prey that is rescued, rehabilitated, raised and released or supported for life by the Foundation costs money every day.   Education programs about the Bald Eagle and protection of its habitat require lots of printing and publications and mailings.  Eagle appearances at events all across America involve travel and show costs.  And our major eagle breeding, care and exhibition facilities in Pigeon Forge, TN, cost money to operate and maintain.  We depend for a lot of our funding on individual caring citizens who become supporting members of the National Foundation to Protect America's Eagles, and we don't have a lot of big corporate or government grants and contributions.  We have never accepted state or federal funding.  Every dollar counts toward saving America's eagles.

How can I be sure that you will use my money wisely and won't waste it?

In 1997, less than 17% of all funds received by the Foundation were spent on administrative and fund-raising costs.  That means we applied about 83 cents of every dollar directly to eagle care, rehabilitation, exhibition, breeding and release activities and to public education, training and information programs.  We operate under the watchful supervision of our Board of Directors, and in accordance with all the regulations of the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service, the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency and the conservation agencies of many other states.

Can I Volunteer? How?

Yes, you can volunteer personally or through a group, class, organization or company.   If you live near Pigeon Forge in East Tennessee, you can volunteer at our headquarters facility.  Those who live elsewhere can be a part of our "Adopt An Eagle" or "Eagle Nest Watch" programs, or you can conduct a "Save The Eagle" fund raising project in your school, church or organization.  View our website at the following URL: www.eagles.org
