Alzheimer’s devastates 80,000 families locally. Our chapter serves D.C., Northern Virginia, Montgomery, Prince George’s, and Southern Maryland counties, providing care and support for thousands of families. We also support Alzheimer awareness, advocacy and research.
Why do we exist?
The Alzheimer's Association® is the leading, global voluntary health organization in Alzheimer care and support, and the largest private, nonprofit funder of Alzheimer's research. Our mission—both nationally and locally—is to eliminate Alzheimer’s disease through the advancement of research; to provide and enhance care and support for all affected; and to reduce the risk of dementia through the promotion of brain health. Our vision is a world without Alzheimer’s.
The National Capital Area Chapter serves diagnosed individuals, their families and caregivers throughout the District of Columbia, five Maryland counties (Montgomery, Prince Georges', Calvert, St. Mary's, and Charles), and 11 counties in Virginia (Arlington, Clarke, Fairfax, Fauquier, Frederick, King George, Loudoun, Prince William, Rappahannock, Stafford, Warren).
What have you accomplished?

• In less than a year since the launching of TrialMatch™, which facilitates clinical trial participation, more than 300 people in our local Chapter territory have participated.
• Nearly 3,000 residents of our local community are registered in our safety initiatives.
• This past year, the Chapter conducted educational presentations on Alzheimer’s and brain health for over 3,300 family caregivers and members of the public, and trainings on dementia care for nearly 1,900 nurses, nursing aides, social workers, health administrators, and home health workers throughout our territory.
